Happy almost-Valentine’s Day!
With the roads treacherous due to the heavy California rains (and even some Bay Area snow!), now seems like a good time to plan fun times in the future.
And to explore a “love” of my life to which you might like to look forward: special community events.
As mentioned on this blog many times before, Long Beach “Chief Inspiration Officer” Justin Rudd and his nonprofit Community Action Team host more than 60 special events, annually. And they have a g-r-e-a-t one c-o-m-i-n-g u-p.
You guessed it–the 19th Annual National Adult Spelling Bee!

On Sunday, March 9th at 4:30 pm, participants will gather at Bay Shore Church Fellowship Hall, in the Belmont Shore area of Long Beach. Any adult, 14 years of age or older, who is a resident of North America, may enter.
Entrance fees are $10 if received on or before March 2nd. If received after March 2nd, but before event day, the fee is $20. And on the day itself, the fee is $30.
Meanwhile, spectators are welcome, and the entrance fee is $5 cash at the door.
The winner of the spelling bee will receive $1,000 prize money, and their favorite organization, school or nonprofit will receive $500.
Here’s a link to the rules, and a link for registration.

Meanwhile, if you’re in the Long Beach area, be sure to check out Justin’s website. Between the Chalk Art Contest, Mom Prom and Father/Daughter Dance, Operation Easter Basket, Haute Dog events and others too numerous to mention, you’re sure to find an event or project you will love.
