Happy Valentine’s Day!
May it be full of everything you love most.
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the sun is breaking through! It’s a beautiful Valentine’s Day.
But due to all the stormy weather in California (and lots of snow elsewhere!), I’ve been doing a Valentine series on future fun, as opposed to suggesting anyone drive anywhere. I’ll wrap this series up with one more of my “loves”: crafts.
Both making them, and seeing what others have created.
Here are a few crafts fairs for which you might like to mark your calendar.
Torrance Craftsmen’s Guild
Nonprofit Torrance Craftsmen’s Guild will be welcoming Spring with TWO special events.
On Saturday, March 15th, they’ll host their twenty-fifth annual “Arts and Crafts Spring Faire” at Ken Miller Recreation Center, in Torrance. Hours are 10 am to 3 pm, and admission and parking are free. (And their needlework, handcrafted jewelry, handmade soaps and various other treasures can be close to irresistible!)
Then...
You might also like to join them for a special event on Sunday, March 30th.

That’s the date of the “Cherry Blossom Cultural Festival”, happening in Columbia Park from 11L00 am to 4:00 pm.
Again, all kinds of beautiful, all-handmade creations, as well as an opportunity if you are an artist or artisan: they’re accepting vendor applications from now through Monday, March 10th. (Here’s the link for more information on both events.)

One of the best artists’ festivals I’ve visited! Lots of highly unusual, and again, all-handcrafted, juried creations.
In addition to their California shows, Jackalope Arts hosts their festivals in Denver and Minneapolis. While I don’t yet see the Colorado show dates, if you’re traveling to Minnesota this summer, they’re working in collaboration with the Downtown Minneapolis Street Art Festival, which happens Saturday and Sunday, August 9th ant 10th.
Meanwhile, their California shows, this spring, are happening in Pasadena’s Central Park, April 26th and 27th, and they’re participating in the Downtwon Burbank Arts Festival on May 31st and June 1st. Again, admission is free.
Applications are currently open for vendors for both shows, as well as the Downtown Minneapolis Street Art Festival.
In addition, if you’d like to host an activity (they have some great art workshops!) or volunteer, check out the “Get Involved” tab for these events. Here’s their link with a listing of upcoming fairs.

A longtime favorite, Patchwork Show is now just ONE of the many crafts-related events hosted by multitalented creative entrepreneur Nicole Stevenson.
Rebranded this year as “Your Creative Mentor”, Nicole hosts the yearly “Craftcation” business and makers conference in Ventura, as well as offering CAMP, a six-week online goal-getting bootcamp for creatives, and The Club, an exclusive online creative community. Both currently have waitlists, according to her website, but Craftcation, happening April 23rd through 27th, still has some availability.
Meanwhile, six spring and summer Patchwork Shows are scheduled, with dates in Northern and Southern California. The first of the spring shows happens Sunday, May 18th, from 11 am to 5 pm in the Marine Stadium area of Long Beach. Then, shows follow in Tustin, Chino Hills, Oakland, Ventura and Redwood City.
Admission is free for each of the shows, and you’ll find a parking map for each on that particular location’s listing.

In addition, if you’d like to be considered as a Patchwork Show vendor, they now have “rolling applications”, where prospective vendors will know, within about a week, if their application has been accepted. Here’s the link for more information.
And–that’s it, for now. Again, a very Happy Valentine’s Day to you and those you love, and stay safe.
