“Aloha” does not mean “hello”, as Likohina’s Tropical Butters proprietor Laurie Pelekai explains.
Nor does it mean “goodbye”, or even “I love you”.
“So, aloha, to me, is to share me and my culture, and to really connect with people,” Laurie says.
That’s exactly what she’s doing, with her homemade butters in tropical flavors. And you’ll get a chance to experience that connection, at Torrance Craftsmen’s Guild’s 57th Annual Fall Arts and Crafts Faire!
Laurie will be one of the 93 exhibiting artists and artisans on hand for this special event.
(Come prepared to be tempted. Her tropical butters sound incredible!)
Laurie crafts a dozen different flavors, including passion fruit (lilikoi), pineapple, coconut, and some of the more unusual ones like pandan. Some of these are from family recipes, while others, she created herself. (Like her recent pumpkin-spice butter, which is a bestseller!)
When you stop by her booth, you’ll get to experience a mini-island visit.
Laurie says she decorates her space with all kinds of Hawaiian decor, including a special family keepsake. And she’ll make you feel very welcome. Not surprisingly, she serves as Torrance Craftsmen’s Guild’s hospitality chair!
As we discussed the story of her small business, her yummy-sounding creations and her work with Torrance Craftsmen’s Guild, Laurie shared some great ideas for cooking with her butters. She even offered a recipe for a great dessert. for Christmastime or any time!
Meanwhile, if you’re thinking of early Christmas shopping, now might be a great time to place an order with Laurie. Her homemade butters tend to sell out! (Follow her on Instagram, at likohina529, where you can get a closer look at some of her products.)
