Fundraising and Fun at CALB

artists1When isn’t the Cultural Alliance of Long Beach doing something interesting, in support of artists and the community?

Possibly when they’re asleep–but that’s about it.

This afternoon, Friday, April 19th, they’re raising funds for Reid High School’s upcoming prom–and South Coast Children’s Theatre–by selling prom dresses for $25.  They have both long and short designer gowns available in their Building 2 (729 Pine Avenue) at 5 p.m. today.

And that’s only a start.

At 6:00 tonight, singer/writer/poet Shy But Fly will host an open mic.   Then, at 7:00 p.m., Tony Damico’s “Beat Theatre” stages their performance in Building 2–with beat artists performing as a classic film plays.  And at 7:10 tonight, they’re hosting the “Seven-Ten Swap” in the Bungalow Building.   Guests can bring an item to trade or take one they need, as well as participate in a potluck.

All this, and Long Beach’s first annual “Green Prix”, too.

This inaugural event, happening tomorrow, Saturday, April 20th, combines “green” artists, who create their works from recycled materials, with presentations by “green” chefs, workshops and film screenings.   “Green Prix” runs from 11 a.m to 8 p.m. tomorrow on Long Beach’s Pine Avenue, and is presented by CALB in conjunction with Green Education, Incorporated, Millworks, Leadership Long Beach, Green Long Beach! and the Downtown Long Beach Business Association.

Enjoy!
