It’s Christmastime in a small seaside town.

Carolers sing on the snowy streets.   Secretive family members hurry past you with mysterious packages.  And be on guard–snowballs may fly at any moment.

That’s the world of “A Child’s Christmas in Wales”, by Dylan Thomas.  And this weekend, the Long Beach Shakespeare Company would like to take you there.

Today through Sunday, December 9-11, mark the last three performances of “A Child’s Christmas in Wales”, LBSC’s  final fully-staged production of this season.   Performances at the Helen Borgers Theater, in Long Beach, are happening this Friday and Saturday evening at 8 pm, and there’s a matinee  at 2:00 this Sunday afternoon, December 11th, for the closing performance of this particular production.

But–that’s certainly not all the Long Beach Shakespeare Company is doing.

Next weekend, December 16th-18th, they’re also performing their “A Christmas Carol Radio Show”.

And like all their radio performances, “A Christmas Carol” will be live-streamed on Long Beach Shakespeare Company’s webpage.    You can either choose to attend the performance live, or watch it online.  Performance times, once again, are 8:00 Friday and Saturday evening, December 16th and 17th, and a 2:00 matinee on Sunday, December 18th, according to LBSC’s calendar page.

Meanwhile, if you’re looking for a great Christmastime theater experience this weekend, “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” is waiting to take you to a simpler, more whimsical place and time.

Oh–and one more note.

If you’re completely stuck for a gift idea for someone special on your list, who also loves theater?  One of the best Christmas gifts I’ve ever received, was season tickets to a local community theater!

Nonprofit Long Beach Shakespeare Company has announced their 2023 performance schedule–and their upcoming shows include their Alice in Wonderland radio show (January), Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night (May-June) and O. Henry’s The Gift of the Magi in November and December!

Long Beach Shakespeare Company’s final three performances of “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” take place tonight and Saturday, December 9th and 10th at 8 pm at the Helen Borgers Theatre, 4250 Atlantic Avenue (between Claiborne and Cartagena) in Long Beach.  Here’s the link for more information.
