A Christmas pageant is special anyway.
But a uniquely Latin-flavored pageant, celebrating the season of miracles, which has become an L.A. tradition, will be unforgettable.
During this first weekend of December, L.A.’s Latino Theater Company will present their signature Christmas pageant, La Virgen de Guadalupe, Dios Inantzin, at Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.
La Virgen, the City of L.A.’s largest theatrical Christmas production, has been an annual L.A. holiday event since the company’s first production in 2002.
More than 100 actors and singers, as well as indigenous Aztec dancers, will share the story of Juan Diego, a simple peasant.
On four separate occasions, the Virgin Mary appeared to Juan in 1531, in the mountains of Tepevac, near Mexico City.
The story, from the mid-16th century text The Nican Mopohua, has been adapted for the stage by Evelina Fernández, and will be performed in Spanish, with English subtitles.
While the performance is free, as a gift to the community, premium seating is also available. On-site parking is $10. Here’s the link for more information.
