“I’m bored! What can I do nowwww?”
(Remember how we said that, in summers past? And now, you may be hearing a reprise, courtesy of the next generation?)
Lisa Cherry, of The Makery modern crafts studio, has a solution. And neighbors Eva Lacy and Danielle Ochoa, proprietors of A Little Known Shop, are helping to implement Lisa’s great idea: a ten-week series called “Crafternoons”, for kids ages five to ten! Eva teaches and uses her artistic talents for face painting, while Danielle “minds the store” at their new Little Known Shop.
“Crafternoons”, which run for two hours on Tuesdays, just launched last week in Anaheim. These special programs start at 1 p.m., and include drawing, painting, assemblage, and storytelling.
Not familiar with The Makery–or with A Little Known Shop? The Makery is a walk-in crafts studio, where visitors can choose from a rotating “menu” of crafts projects they’d like to make. Meanwhile, A Little Known Shop, adjacent to them, is a brand-new artists’ collaborative, opened this past May 31st and displaying the handmade creations of more than thirty artists.
The two establishments are like a different world from their surroundings, tucked away on Anaheim’s Brookhurst Street as part of a plaza of creative spaces.
A Little Known Shop proprietors Eva Lacy and Danielle Ochoa said The Makery’s inaugural “Crafternoon”, on July 2, included both tissue-paper crafts and a chance for the kids to create their own superheroes.
Eva and Danielle offered a closer look at The Makery’s upcoming “Crafternoons” and what’s available for kids–and the parents or even grandparents who want to make Summer 2013 a special time for them.
The Makery, at 423 South Brookhurst Street, Suite “L”, will be hosting “Crafternoons” for kids ages five to ten on Tuesdays, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., for the next nine weeks.
