Almost Summer, Complete Creativity

Sunday’s Patchwork Show Modern Handmade Festival was a celebration!

Tents lined Broadway as more than 150 crafters converged on the downtown area of Santa Ana.  Festivalgoers admired everything from luster-fired ceramics to artisan soaps,  sculpted gold jewelry and handmade vintage clothing.

Music filled the air as performers played on three music stages.  Families lined up to create something special of their own at the “Amazing Human-powered Art Machine”.   A few steps away, organizers talked with attendees about their proposed upcoming Orange County Rock N’ Roll Camp For Girls, currently funding on Indiegogo.   (They have four days left and are nearly three-quarters of the way to being completely funded!)

And oh, the food!   Among the offerings attendees could try were jalapeno-flavored spicy popcorn, artisan baked goods created especially for the Patchwork Show, mushroom tacos and sweet tea in glass jars, reminiscent of bygone summers and a slower time.  One huge hit was a s’mores cupcake, of which the creator was offering free samples.  (Full disclosure: this reporter did not hesitate when offered one–perhaps we should call it a “free samMMMMMMMple”!)

Couldn’t make it to this particular Patchwork Show or didn’t know about it in time?  Not to worry–the next one happens next Sunday, June 2, in Long Beach!

The next Patchwork Show runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, June 2 at Long Beach’s Marine Stadium, 5255 Paoli Way.
