OK, change of plans.

I was just about to write that San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is having a fantastic, free Holiday Makers’ Market this Sunday, December 7th.

BUT–they’re actually having TWO free special events this week–and you’re invited!

First, mark your calendar for this Thursday, December 4th.

From 4:00 to 8:00 that evening, they’ll be hosting their First Thursday Gift Lab.

This promises to be something special.

A series of drop-in workshops hosted by Bay Area artists and educators will guide you through creating unique treasures–for Christmastime or any time.

Each station will supply all the materials needed, according to an email from SFMOMA.  Areas covered will include felting, hand-pulled papers, weaving and painting on miniature canvases.

And you’re invited to come solo or bring friends, for an evening of creating, having fun and leaving with something handcrafted, in your style.

These workshops are free to all local residents; here’s the link for information.

And, this Sunday…

Now–what about that Holiday Makers Market?

Well,  it’s going to feature more than 20 Bay Area artists and makers, and happens this Sunday, December 7th, from 10 am to 5 pm on Floor 2, in Helen and Charles Schwab Hall.  Admission is free, with no tickets or reservations needed.

A look at the exhibitors’ listing page is enough to tempt anyone.

There are far too many for me to do justice here, but if I were going, I’d probably come home with one or more of those incredible-sounding sculptural soaps from Beo, courtesy of artist Gama Hsu.   Or a sunflower clock, complete with a bee on its second hand, from Douglas Chalk of Cleverclocks.   And almost certainly a tote bag with a “San Francisco cat” from Yanchako.

And that’s before I even start shopping for anyone else!

And, just in case you can’t get to San Francisco, as I can’t this week, you still have the opportunity to support SFMOMA and their gifted artists and educators.  Check out their Holiday Gift Guide to buy online.

San Francisco Museum of Modern Art hosts their First Thursday Gift Lab this Thursday, December 4th, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, on Floor 4, Gina and Stuart Peterson White Box.  San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is located at 151 Third Street, near Howard.  Here’s the link for transit and parking information.

Also, their Holiday Makers Market, in Helen and Charles Schwab Hall, runs from 10 am to 5 pm, this Sunday, December 7th.  Admission is free, and the event is open to the public.
