Celebrating the Best

Tragedies like the California wildfires spotlight the best and worst in human nature.

We’ve seen that, in the past few weeks.

After five separate fires shocked Southern California with unprecedented devastation, communities joined together to donate to the fire victims.   One of my personal favorites was a Venice group, almost overwhelmed with donations, that invited volunteers, as they entered, to “take a letter” from someone impacted by the fires.

Accordingly, the volunteer would take the letter, “shop” among the donations for what the writer needed most, write them a personal note beginning, “Dear Friend,” and then deliver the needed supplies.

Of course, the antithesis to this outpouring of kindness: looters, arsonists, and a news story, this morning, in which one apprehended woman is quoted as saying she “likes” to cause chaos!

As we move forward together, I’m keeping in mind what a friend said recently.  He was at the store and a deli clerk reacted negatively when he asked her to slice some fresh meat.

His response was, “I’m OK.  I operate to  a higher vibration.”

I liked that a lot–and will keep it in mind in the days ahead.  I’m blessed to encounter people, every day–artists, creatives, community organizers–who do tune in to that “higher vibration”.

How about you?

Tomorrow I’ll spotlight a few of them.
