As a kid growing up back East, I couldn’t imagine Christmas without snow.
Celebrations like “Christmas on the Wharf”, in Monterey, prove that cold weather has nothing to do with festivity.
From now through Sunday evening, December 22nd, Monterey is hosting their 8th annual “Christmas on the Wharf”.
Decorations will include a 23-foot Christmas tree, surrounded by giant illuminated sea creatures. Up and down Old Fisherman’s Wharf, visitors will get to see tin soldiers, silhouetted lit trees, inflatable and much more.
Free music and dance performances happen at various times through the weekends. Choirs, youth dancers and a variety of singers will be on hand.
Meanwhile, Santa will be available for visits and photo opportunities.
The Santa house will be open on Friday evenings from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Saturdays from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm, and Sunday afternoons from 1;00 pm to 6:00 pm, from now through December 22nd. (And why should Santa have all the fun? If you can, you’re encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy for the Salvation Army Toy Drop!)
You’re invited to come and do some last-minute shopping or enjoy a cup of cocoa and some Christmas cookies while enjoying the California coastline and the sightings of California sea lions, seagulls, otters and other marine wildlife.
Too busy to take the time before Christmas Day? You might like to treat yourself to a visit sometime during Christmastide. The decorations stay up until January 2nd, 2025.
