OK, we still have a while till Christmas.
But from now through Thursday, September 26th at 8:59 am Pacific time, you’re invited to help Solvang win Newsweek’s Reader’s Choice Award for “Best Christmas Town.”
Online voting is happening at this link, and please, one vote per person, per contest list, per day.
“The Newsweek awards nomination couldn’t arrive at a better time for us, as the city is preparing for Solvang Julefest, said Solvang City Manager Randy Murphy in a recent press release.
“We are accustomed to being referred to as one of the nation’s most ‘Christmassy’ towns, and each time Solvang is named as such our holiday sparkle shines even brighter.”
I’m looking forward to exploring that sparkle this year.
With their “Julefest”, Solvang usually begins celebrating Christmas in late November. Festivities continue throughout the entire month of December.
A month of “hygge”
The tree lighting, with musical performances and Santa’s arrival, usually starts off the season.
The month’s festive events then include candlelight tours, a Julefest parade, Nativity pageant and much more. Those mischievous Nisse (elves) are usually in hiding throughout the town, with visitors challenged to find them to receive a special prize.
In addition, there are always new features. Wine tours, food tours and the European-inspired Solvang Julefest Makers Market have been among the past events adding to the “sparkle”.
I can’t wait to get the word on what’s new this year, for Solvang’s “hygge” Julefest celebration! Meanwhile, please consider giving them your vote.
