Three million twinkling lights brighten the night.
Visitors browse through forty-eight local vendor booths, finding treasures that include hand-blown glass ornaments and German nutcrackers.
Live music adds to the festive atmosphere. A train whistle summons guests to ride through a special story with additional lights, not seen elsewhere. Scents of gingerbread hearts, roasted nuts and German stollen (fruit bread) fill the air.
The Cambria Christmas Market, once again, brings the traditions of a European Christmas market to California’s Central Coast–and you’re invited!
2025 marks the fourteenth year of the open-air Cambria Christmas Market, inspired by German Christmas markets dating back to the fourteenth century.
How to visit
Cambria Christmas Market opens on Friday, November 28th and runs on select dates through Wednesday, December 31st. Tickets are currently on sale online, and a limited number of hotel packages are available, at three properties in the area, for a festive overnight getaway. (However, book early–the website warns that popular nights tend to sell out!)
“We’re counting down the days!” said Event Director Mike Arnold in a recent press release.
“We’ve added more nights in 2025, and…we’ve got new displays, more vendors and plenty of holiday magic in store.”
Get out the camera
That magic includes what will be happening at neighboring Cambria Nursery.
With thousands of lights, a Christmas Shoppe and Museum and photo opportunities with their breathtaking themed displays and decorated trees, they’re not to be missed. (And their imported German Christmas collectibles and ornaments may just wind up being a favorite part of your Christmas shopping, “can’t-wait-till-they-open-it” experience.)
Specifics? Cambria Christmas Market is open from 5 pm to 9 pm, on select dates, through December 31st. All event parking is offsite. VIP parking is available at both Cambria Nursery and Cambria Pines Lodge, and complimentary shuttles are provided to the event. Here’s the link for the schedule and additional parking information.
Naughty, nice or otherwise?
As you plan your trip, you may want it to include a certain gentleman in a red suit.
Santa will be onsite most evenings, from 5:00 to 8:30 pm, and visits with him are included in the price of admission. Be sure to bring your camera along to snap some great photos! However, since this is busy season for St. Nick, there are some evenings when he won’t be available. Here’s the link for more information.
And of course, no German Christmas celebration would be complete without Santa’s counterpart, the Krampus.
An intriguing display pays homage to this darker side of German Christmas lore: the horned creature who punishes naughty children by swatting them–or, in some cases, taking them away to his lair.
(And who tends to be a lot of fun at Christmastime!)
Keep in mind…
Now, some facts of note.
First: Cambria Christmas Market is closed to the general public Dec. 1-2, 8-9 & 24-25. Prospective guests may book a “Lights Only” hotel package at Cambria Pines on these dates. Santa, the vendors and the train, as well as the food and entertainment, are not available on these dates. Here’s the link for information.
Second: This is a rain-or-shine event, and tickets are nonrefundable. Due to the popularity of the event, there are no exchanges on purchased tickets. Once online tickets sell out, there will NOT be any offered at the door; choose a different date.
And, finally: Prepare to be “2025-edition dazzled”.
Cambria Christmas Market works with the Cal Poly events and engineering departments to build new, interactive displays every year.
Consequently, the magic you experience, this Christmas season, will be different from Cambria Christmas Market 2026–for which dates have already been announced!
