for friends and family members?<\/p>\n<p>Me neither.<\/p>\n<p>So, here&#8217;s a &#8220;roundup&#8221; of some favorite upcoming crafts and artisan fairs&#8211;and some new ones!&#8211;that you might like to put on your calendar.\u00a0 I can recommend at least three of these from experience, for unique, locally-made gifts with a story&#8211;and a gifted artist&#8211;behind them.<\/p>\n<p>And the best part is, the first one happens in the Bay Area this weekend.<a href=\"https:\/\/noelophile.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Patchwork-show-festival_edited-1-e1445669147415.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8415\" src=\"https:\/\/noelophile.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Patchwork-show-festival_edited-1-e1445669147415.jpg\" alt=\"Patchwork show festival_edited-1\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" \/><\/a>The <a href=\"http:\/\/dearhandmadelife.com\/patchwork-show\/\">Patchwork Show<\/a> comes to Oakland tomorrow, this <strong>Sunday, October 25th<\/strong>.\u00a0 It&#8217;s happening <strong>11 am to 5 pm<\/strong> in Jack London Square, and admission&#8217;s free.<\/p>\n<p>Then, in November, they&#8217;ll have two Southern California shows: in Long Beach, at Marine Stadium, <strong>Sunday, November 15th, 11 am to 5 pm.<\/strong>\u00a0 Or, if you&#8217;re free Thanksgiving weekend, you can also check out the Santa Ana edition: <strong>Sunday, November 29th, 11 am to 5 pm <\/strong>at 2nd and Sycamore.<\/p>\n<p>This one&#8217;s a total favorite, created by Dear Handmade Life artists Nicole Stevenson and Delilah Snell in 2008.\u00a0 Cool jewelry, soaps, clothes, a hands-on crafting booth and those hard-to-resist artisan popsicles are just a few of the fun things you&#8217;ll find!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_8450\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/noelophile.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/jackalope.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8450\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8450\" src=\"https:\/\/noelophile.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/jackalope.jpg\" alt=\"(Graphic courtesy of Sara Vausbinder\/Jackalope Art Fair, and used with permission.)\" width=\"400\" height=\"409\" srcset=\"https:\/\/noelophile.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/jackalope.jpg 400w, https:\/\/noelophile.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/jackalope-293x300.jpg 293w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-8450\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">(Graphic courtesy of Sara Vausbinder\/Jackalope Art Fair, and used with permission.)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>New this year is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jackalopeartfair.com\/\">Jackalope Art Fair<\/a>, now gearing up for their second appearance in Southern California.\u00a0 They&#8217;ll be hosting their Fall Show on <strong>Saturday and Sunday, November 7th and 8th<\/strong>, in Pasadena&#8217;s Central Park.\u00a0 Hours are <strong>10 am to 5 pm<\/strong>, both days, and admission&#8217;s free.<\/p>\n<p>This is a juried fair with more than 200 vendors, and their website reveals a wide selection of very imaginative creations. \u00a0 They&#8217;ll also be offering some onsite workshops!\u00a0 I&#8217;m hoping to see this particular show firsthand in November.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve just had the pleasure of interviewing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/jackalopearts\">Jackalope Arts<\/a> co-founder Sara Vausbinder.\u00a0 She and fellow creatives Melissa Shipley and Laura Fischer have implemented their special event in\u00a0 all three of their home cities, to give their communities a chance to meet the artisans.\u00a0 So, another Winter Jackalope Fair is happening in Denver, the following weekend: Saturday and Sunday, November 14th and 15th, at EXDO Event Center.\u00a0 Then, there will be a December &#8220;Jackalope&#8221; in Phoenix, Saturday and Sunday, December 12th and 13th at Steele Indian School Park.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_8447\" style=\"width: 618px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/noelophile.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/urban_epic_facebook_ad-608x318-e1445793857318.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8447\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8447\" src=\"https:\/\/noelophile.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/urban_epic_facebook_ad-608x318-e1445793857318.jpg\" alt=\"(Graphic courtesy of Jamie Chan\/Urban Epic Fest, and used with permission.)\" width=\"608\" height=\"318\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-8447\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">(Graphic courtesy of Jamie Chan\/Urban Epic Fest, and used with permission.)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In San Francisco, meanwhile, something new has been added!\u00a0 San Francisco Bazaar creator Jamie Chan is evolving her event into &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/urbanepicfest.com\/\">Urban Epic Fest&#8221;<\/a>, as a first-of-its-kind Bay Area convergence of\u00a0 artisan foods and drink with the work of talented makers.\u00a0 Billed as &#8220;A Festival of Food, Drink and Design&#8221;, the Urban Epicurean Festival happens <strong>Saturday and Sunday, November 7th and 8th<\/strong>, at Fort Mason Center&#8217;s Festival Paviilion.\u00a0 Hours are <strong>11:30 am to 6:30 pm,<\/strong> both days, and admission&#8217;s free.<\/p>\n<p>So, what might you experience at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/urbanepicfest\">Urban Epic Fest<\/a>?\u00a0 They&#8217;re having workshops including craft brewing, air terrarium creation and easy cheese making&#8211;in under ten minutes!\u00a0 (There is an admission charge for workshops, and <a href=\"http:\/\/urbanepicfest.com\/workshops\/\">advance registration<\/a> is recommended).\u00a0 Meanwhile, I count more than 170 exhibitors in the &#8220;craft and design&#8221; emailed founders Claudia and Leslie.\u00a0 &#8220;We are up to 75+ vendors now.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Also, according to their flyer, they&#8217;ll have kids&#8217; activities, artisan foods and music at their second annual holiday show in Alhambra, on <strong>Sunday, November 15th.<\/strong>\u00a0 Hours are <strong>10 am to 4 pm<\/strong> at &#8220;The Alhambra&#8221;, at 1000 South Fremont Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>I haven&#8217;t yet experienced this one.\u00a0 However, considering the beautiful photographic art prints, jewelry and handcrafted leather items on their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/mosaiccraftfair?_rdr=p\">Facebook page<\/a>, I may just have to do some investigative reporting!<a href=\"https:\/\/noelophile.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/renegade-sign2-e1445706528618.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4755\" src=\"https:\/\/noelophile.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/renegade-sign2-e1445706528618.jpg\" alt=\"renegade sign2\" width=\"379\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a>And of course, no roundup of crafts events would be complete without the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.renegadecraft.com\/\"> Renegade Craft Fair<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0 They&#8217;re the &#8220;indie&#8221; craft fair groundbreaker, started in 2003 to showcase independent artisans.\u00a0 They&#8217;re currently in eight cities, including London, Austin and Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>They, too, will be coming to San Francisco&#8217;s Fort Mason Festival Pavilion, the weekend of <strong>November 21st and 22nd,<\/strong> for their &#8220;Holiday Renegade Craft Fair&#8221;.\u00a0 Hours are <strong>11 am to 6 pm,<\/strong> both days, and admission is free.<\/p>\n<p>They promise more details forthcoming, but their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.renegadecraft.com\/sanfrancisco\/sanfrancisco-holiday-fair-details\">webpage<\/a> mentions that they&#8217;ll have DIY workshops, in addition to their artisans&#8217; exhibits.\u00a0 I can certainly tell you, from experience, that these do not disappoint!\u00a0 I&#8217;ve loved the inlaid wood cutting boards, antique-key jewelry and scented soaps from among the treasures their independent &#8220;artrepreneurs&#8221; create.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Los Angeles can also look forward to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.renegadecraft.com\/losangeles\/losangeles-holiday-fair-details\">Holiday Renegade Craft Fair<\/a>.\u00a0 The Southern California edition is set for the weekend of <strong>December 12-13,<\/strong> in Grand Park, downtown L.A.\u00a0 Hours for the L.A. show are <strong>10 am to 5 pm<\/strong>, and this is a rain-or-shine event, with admission free.<a href=\"https:\/\/noelophile.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/proud-member-sign-e1445707129817.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6357\" src=\"https:\/\/noelophile.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/proud-member-sign-e1445707129817.jpg\" alt=\"proud member sign\" width=\"369\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a>And&#8211;last but never least?\u00a0 A don&#8217;t-miss Christmastime event for me is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.handmadeinsouthbay.com\/\">Handmade in South Bay&#8217;s <\/a>Third Annual Holiday Boutique!\u00a0 Doesn&#8217;t seem possible that this all-handmade group of passionate entrepreneurs will have been doing this for three years already.\u00a0 But this third special Christmastime event happens <strong>Saturday, December 5th<\/strong>, at CRAFTED at the Port of Los Angeles, 112 East 22nd Street in San Pedro.\u00a0 Their hours are <strong>11 am to 6 pm, and admission&#8217;s free.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>HMSB&#8217;s Holiday Boutique has really grown since the first one, with an Authors&#8217; Alley that may just tempt you to curl up, one afternoon, and give yourself a pre-Christmas treat of a great read accompanied by some hot chocolate and cookies.\u00a0 Their all-handmade vendors, last year, offered everything from handsewn quilts to steampunk jewelry (which resulted in a note with the words, &#8220;You know what we like!&#8221;, from some favorite Christmas gift recipients!).<a href=\"https:\/\/noelophile.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/artist-alley-e1445707329462.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6371\" src=\"https:\/\/noelophile.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/artist-alley-e1445707329462.jpg\" alt=\"artist alley\" width=\"474\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Best of all, though, they&#8217;re a &#8220;give-back&#8221; kind of group.\u00a0 So in addition to supporting the local artists and entrepreneurs in their journey, they&#8217;ll be hosting a Young Entrepreneurs&#8217; section, as well as supporting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/DSTLArts\">DTSL Arts<\/a> students.\u00a0 And while there&#8217;s no official word yet this year, last year, the local Cub Scouts were on hand to gift-wrap purchases, in return for donations to their organization.<\/p>\n<p>So&#8211;these are just a few of the excellent independent-crafts events at which you may find some amazing gifts to give those you love, for Christmas 2015.\u00a0 Enjoy, and I may very well see you there.\u00a0 Writing this has made me feel &#8220;Christmasy&#8221;
