Want to know how truly “spoiled” we are?\u00a0\u00a0 Try going without something we take for granted.<\/p>\n

This weekend, we had that opportunity.<\/p>\n

Our local power company shut off power, for maintenance, for twenty-four hours.\u00a0 It happened on Friday night, so, in theory<\/em>, should not have resulted in any problems.<\/p>\n

Reality was another matter.\u00a0 On Saturday and Sunday, repair trucks were plying the streets of our neighborhood–as no one had any Internet service!<\/p>\n

So, I now have some amends to make.First of all, to the gifted and talented artisans of Handmade in the South Bay<\/a>–whose first Spring Boutique I’d planned to promote.\u00a0\u00a0 Without even the ability to tweet, I can only tell you that it was fantastic–two rooms in El Segundo’s Joslyn Center filled with needlecrafters, soapmakers, quilters, jewelry designers and generally cool stuff.\u00a0 They also held a raffle for a great cause–all their raffle proceeds went to benefit San Pedro-based Packages for Patriots<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I look forward to telling you all about the NEXT amazing event they’ll be hosting!.<\/p>\n

Secondly, to the organizers of Artisanal LA.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

This is an incredible event, held at the L.A. Mart<\/a> and focusing mainly on artisan foods, but also featuring crafts by some amazing artists. \u00a0 While they were kind enough to invite me to cover their Spring Show this weekend–guess who never saw the “invite”, due to the cranky Internet?<\/p>\n

So, I look forward to alerting you, the minute they announce the dates for their FALL show.\u00a0 Save a weekend (usually in October), as well as room for some truly delectable items like freshly baked bread and hand-dipped chocolates–just for starters.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

And, finally, to YOU–for not getting to put the word out on this incredible weekend before all of this happened.\u00a0 So, I look forward to telling you all about the upcoming spring and summer craft-related events–starting right off with the Patchwork Show<\/a>, which kicks off its season in Oakland on May 11th before heading to Long Beach, two weeks later!<\/p>\n
