I was just about to write that San Francisco Museum of Modern Art<\/a> is having a fantastic, free Holiday Makers’ Market this Sunday, December 7th.<\/p>\nBUT–they’re actually having TWO free special events this week–and you’re invited!<\/p>\n
First, mark your calendar for this Thursday, December 4th.<\/strong><\/p>\nFrom 4:00 to 8:00 that evening,<\/strong> they’ll be hosting their First Thursday Gift Lab.<\/p>\nThis promises to be something special.<\/p>\n

Each station will supply all the materials needed, according to an email from SFMOMA.\u00a0 Areas covered will include felting, hand-pulled papers, weaving and painting on miniature canvases.<\/p>\n
And you’re invited to come solo or bring friends, for an evening of creating, having fun and leaving with something handcrafted, in your style.<\/p>\n

Great news!<\/p>\n
Shoppers get to enjoy Jackalope Art Fair’<\/a>s winter show in Pasadena without having to slosh through heavy rain, mud or otherwise-unfestive weather conditions.<\/p>\nThat’s because, due to the storm forecast for this weekend, Jackalope Art Fair’s winter show in Old Town has now been rescheduled from this Saturday and Sunday to NEXT weekend: November 22nd and 23rd.<\/strong><\/p>\nAnd once the predicted rain is over, the sun’s going shine on two days of great shopping, from more than 200 booths of curated vendors showcasing their handcrafted work.<\/p>\n

In addition, visitors will get to “get crafty” with some hands-on activities!\u00a0 \u00a0Nonprofit Jackalope Gives will be hosting a free pinwheel decorating and wooden mushroom painting, just outside the information booth.\u00a0 (Can we say “cute Christmas ornaments” here?)<\/p>\n

Additional activities will include “make-your-own-slime” workshops, courtesy of Sparklez Slimez; custom poetry about you by Los Angeles Street poet Bryan Mahoney (he whips these up on vintage typewriters!), free live custom screen printing by Print Renegades (you can bring an item from home to be printed, or have them screen print something from the artisans on-site!) and Face Painting by Linda (who does glitter tattoos, face painting and nail art for all occasions, and has garnered rave reviews!).<\/p>\n
Live music will be featured, both days, courtesy of instrumentalists\/vocalists Rusty Perez, Ricky England and Paul Falcon.<\/p>\n

Ninety-nine gifted artists and artisans.\u00a0 Music, food, and support of the next generation of crafters.<\/p>\n
And all of this by a talented nonprofit group who are having fun growing their creative gifts as they give back to their community.<\/p>\n
Torrance Craftsmen’s Guild’<\/a>s fifty-sixth annual “Arts and Crafts Fall Faire” is happening next weekend, and you’re invited!<\/p>\n![\""Arts](\"https:\/\/noelophile.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Arts-ad-Crafts-Faire12.jpg\")
<\/a><\/p>\nAccording to Torrance Craftsmen’s Guild President Heidi Bartlett, great artists will be everywhere at the Ken Miller Rec Center that weekend.<\/p>\n
“Toyota Meeting Hall, Torino Plaza, Ken Miller Auditorium, East Room, and several will be on the Front Lawn,” Heidi emails.<\/p>\n
DJ Ozzie will be on hand, once again, adding a festive sound to the proceedings with some great music.<\/p>\n
Now, what might you expect to see from the 99 members of nonprofit Torrance Craftsmen’s Guild who will be participating?<\/p>\n

There’s no actual “cake” involved in her “candy cakes”, which are spectacular works of art.<\/p>\n

Before this COVID mess forced me to isolate and admire the work of nonprofit Torrance Craftsmen’s Guild remotely, I never managed to leave one of their shows without:<\/p>\n

- And, of course, at least one Christmas ornament.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Their website<\/a> explains that these scholarships are open to Torrance High School seniors interested in the area of arts and crafts, and that scholarship awards vary from $1000 to $2000.<\/p>\nIf you have a high-school age crafter in your household, and you’re in the Torrance area, be on the lookout.\u00a0 Applications for the scholarships go out to the TUSD high schools in January.\u00a0 \u00a0Winners receive their awards in May at the guild\u2019s annual officer installation and scholarship award program.<\/p>\n
